Trim Levels (Exterior)
You'll find four different trims for the new Lightning available, and they each have exterior features to keep in mind when finding the best fit for your needs. The base trim is known as the Pro, and it comes equipped with 18-inch machined wheels and automatic high beams. If that's not enough, you may prefer the XLT, which has 20-inch wheels and LED mirror-mounted spotlights.

At the Lariat trim level, the F-150 Lightning is a bit more luxurious with LED box lighting, a gray-ion fine satin metallic grille, and 20-inch dark carbonized gray wheels. The top trim level is the Platinum, and it impresses with a black high-gloss grille and stylish 22-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
Two engines are available for the 2023 Lightning, and they both have plenty of power to offer. The standard engine is a 452-horsepower masterpiece with 775 pound-feet of torque. If that's not enough, you can upgrade to the second engine option that boosts horsepower to 580 while maintaining the same amount of torque. The more powerful engine also has a greater battery range.
Performance
The best part of any pickup's performance is its capability, but that's not usually something you'd expect from an electric vehicle. Fortunately, the F-150 Lightning is changing that trend by offering a maximum towing capacity of 10,000 pounds when properly equipped. Even with the base model, you still get a towing capacity of 7,700 pounds. The payload capacity is additionally impressive, ranging from 1,800 pounds to 2,000 pounds.
Interior
When you sit inside the Lightning, one of the first things you'll notice is the touchscreen interface. It comes in a 12-inch size standard, but you can upgrade that to 15 inches if you like. Of course, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available. Additionally, the F-150 Lightning has plenty of interior storage, including a front trunk. In a gas-powered F-150, this is where the engine would go, but electric motors don't take up as much space. With that being the case, Ford outfitted the front compartment as an extra storage area.
Safety Features
Entertainment and convenience aren't the only benefits of the Lightning's advanced technology. You'll find plenty of alluring safety features as well, including state-of-the-art driver assistance features. Lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection are standard even at the base trim level. Of course, more advanced features are available too, like adaptive cruise control. The F-150 Lightning can even be augmented with a hands-free driving mode, which is essentially a semi-autonomous driving setting.
