Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Ford Expedition is available in six trims: XL, XLT, Limited, Timberline, King Ranch, and Platinum. Every trim except the XL and Timberline is available with an extended-wheelbase version. The regular Expedition is 17.5 feet long, while the Expedition Max is 18.5 feet long. After receiving an exterior refresh with the outgoing model, the 2023 Expedition only receives minor exterior color-related changes.
Engine (Power)
Regardless of the trim, all 2023 Ford Expeditions come with the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. However, depending on the trim, the power varies. The base trim gets 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, the Timberline trim receives 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, and the Platinum trim has 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive comes standard in all trims except the Timberline, but you can opt for four-wheel drive on the others.
Performance
Despite its size, the 2023 Expedition achieves impressive fuel economy compared to other vehicles in its class. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The Timberline trim works best for off-road adventures thanks in part to a front skid plate, off-road shocks, and 32-inch all-terrain tires. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 9,300 pounds. However, all trims can tow at least 6,000 pounds.
Interior
The 2023 Expedition seats up to eight travelers, although the base trim only seats five since it has two rows. All others have a three-seat third row. You'll find numerous high-end materials scattered throughout the cabin. Its standard Sync infotainment system is available via a 12-inch touchscreen display, but a 15.5-inch one is available on upper trims. Other standard features include a Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB ports, voice recognition, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. If you desire more features, upper trims have additional USB ports, satellite radio, wireless smartphone charging, HD radio, and a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system.
Safety Features
Ford outfitted every 2023 Expedition with almost a dozen driver-assistance features. A few of these key features, many of which are part of the Ford Co-Pilot 360 suite, include automatic high-beam headlights, forward automatic emergency braking, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also has Ford's MyKey, which lets you set audio and speed limits for secondary drivers. Some of the additional safety features available include a surround-view parking camera system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and front parking sensors. You also gain access to BlueCruise, which provides hands-free steering, acceleration, and braking on some of the country's highways.
